You are not just a Son but the Son

It is very easy to get excited and fascinated about several miracles and testimonies of Jesus' account especially how demonic/unclean spirits yield to his authority and even acknowledging that He is the Son of God. However, many Christians barely ask the key question - what does this mean to me? Am I also in the position where demons/unclean spirit should bow before me or even flee just at my presence? Am I in the same class as Jesus or not?

Lets take Mark 3:1-11 for example but particularly verse 11:

Whenever the impure spirits saw him, they fell down before him and cried out, “You are the Son of God.”

Underline the statement "You are the Son of God".

Living in this cruel world as an overcomer or a conqueror depends on whose son you are and believing in that Identity.

I'm happy to proclaim to those who has accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior that you are also the son of God and not just a son.

The unclean spirit yielded to Jesus's authority and obeyed Him because He is the Son of God - and so are you. The same way the unclean spirit fled at the presence of Jesus is the same way they ought to flee from you and not oppress you because you are in the same class as Jesus, you are also the Son of God and not just a son.

If only you will believe then you can experience this truth. The most ridiculous thing that can happen to a Christian is failure to understand his/her identity in Christ.

If one do not take time to study the word of God carefully and find out who God says you are, I'm afraid such person will live an underutilized or a misspent life because Gods plan is for us to live an abundant life with nothing missing, lacking or broken [John 10:10].

We are in the same class as Jesus.

When we become a Christian as a result of believing and accepting Jesus Christ for who He is as our Lord and Savior and most importantly as the Son of the Most High God. [John 3:6], we become ONE with Christ. We are in Him as He is in the Father. [John 17:22-23]

What this means is that we share the same life of God, the same life-giving spirit possessed by Jesus Christ at Resurrection. As He is in heaven, so are we on this earth. [1 John 4:17].

Consider Act 19:11-15, how the unclean spirit dealt with the Sons of Sceva (Jewish Chief Priest) - I guess its worth understanding why this happened?

verse 11 - "God did extraordinary miracles through Paul, so that even handkerchiefs and aprons that had touched him were taken to the sick, and their illnesses were cured and the evil spirits left them."

Did you notice that the above story about Paul is similar to that of Jesus in Mark 3? Paul manifesting the same working of miracles performed by Jesus because He is the son of God just as you are.

And then we see a group of people who are Sons of a Jewish Chief Priest and never believed in the name of Jesus but used Jesus' name as referral.

verse 13- "Some Jews who went around driving out evil spirits tried to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those who were demon-possessed. They would say, “In the name of the Jesus whom Paul preaches, I command you to come out.”14 Seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this.15 One day the evil spirit answered them, “Jesus I know, and Paul I know about, but who are you?”16 Then the man who had the evil spirit jumped on them and overpowered them all. He gave them such a beating that they ran out of the house naked and bleeding."

And you can see, they got the beaten of their life. So what I'm I implying here. Jesus we know that He is the Son of God, Paul we know He is the son of God, the question to you now is whose son are you?

If you have surrendered your life to Jesus, you received the gift of the Holy Spirit which is the same Spirit of Jesus making you as well the son of God. Think about the authority Jesus possess, I believe by now you know you have same authority. [Matt 28:18]

How did you become the son of God?

1) 1 John 3:1-2

Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

Our sonship is not independent of Jesus, we are in Christ as He is in the Father. The same Spirit of Jesus is what is replicated amongst many other Christians which also makes us the son and not just a son. The interesting thing is the evil spirit recognize this truth as we see in Act 19 above.

The truth remains the eye is the lamp of the body, if your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light and vice versa [Matt 6:22-23]. I pray God open our eyes of understanding to see things the way God see them.

The more we behold him (Jesus) the more we be more like him [2 Corinth 3:18].

But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.

2) Colossians 3:3-4

"For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory."

We don't have a life apart from Jesus Christ. In fact, see Gal 2:20 "and it is no longer I who live, but it is Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me."

Remember, the word of God says "we are the light of the world and the salt of the earth [Matt 5:13-14] why because Jesus was first the light of the world as He said in John 9:5. So we are the light of the world because He is, we are the Son of God because He is.

3) Galatians 4:6

"And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!” Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ."

Through Christ means because of our union with Christ. We are not just another son, we became the son of God through our union with Christ. We are extension of Jesus's Spirit.

In conclusion, we do not need to live in fear because God has not given us the spirit of fear, but He gave us the Spirit of power and of love and of a sound mind.

The more you know more about God, the more you know more about yourself. Do not allow the devil to toss you to & fro. Let not the death and resurrection of Jesus be in vain over your life.

God loves you and wants you to live a life of an overcomer and not a slave.[Romans 8:37]

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.[1 Peter 5:8], Meaning not everyone is devourable, cause if that's not the case, why does he need to seek?
